Allgemeine Unterrichtsbedingungen

Das Schuljahr

Das Schuljahr der Freien Musikschule Basel besteht aus zwei Semestern von je annähernd 19 Unterrichtsstunden August bis Januar und Februar bis Juli. Die genauen Daten des Semesters findet man auf der Seite des Erziehungsdepartements.
Die 1. Schulwoche nach der Sommerpause im August ist die Einteilungswoche. Es findet kein regulärer Musikunterricht statt. Ist es der Lehrerin / dem Lehrer möglich, kann der Unterricht nach Absprache bereits in der 1. Woche mit provisorischer Zuteilung beginnen.

Eintritt / Austritt

Eintritte sind quartalsweise, Austritte sind nur auf Semesterende möglich.

Anmeldung / Abmeldung

Die Anmeldungen erfolgen nach Absprache mit der Lehrkraft. Sie müssen vor Beginn jedes Quartals vorliegen. Allfällige Wartelisten bleiben vorbehalten.

Abmeldungen und Urlaubsgesuche müssen der Lehrkraft spätestens zwei Monate vor Semesterende (d.h. 31. Mai resp. 15. November) mit entsprechendem Abmeldeformular (auf dieser Seite zum Download oder im Sekretariat erhältlich) schriftlich mitgeteilt werden. Andernfalls ist, wenn der Lehrer den Platz nicht durch einen neuen Schüler besetzen kann, das Schulgeld für das folgende Semester noch zu bezahlen.

Ferien

Die Ferien entsprechen grundsätzlich denjenigen der öffentlichen Schule des Kantons Basel-Stadt, siehe hier. An staatlichen Feiertagen fällt der Unterricht aus.

Absenzen

Vom Schüler abgesagte Lektionen (Krankheit, Schulausflüge, Schulkolonien, sonstige Verhinderungen) werden nicht nachgeholt.
Vom Lehrer abgesagte Lektionen werden ab der zweiten Lektion (in einem Semester) nachgegeben, von einem Stellvertreter erteilt oder zu jeweils einem Neunzehntel des Semesterschulgelds rückvergütet.

Lektionendauer

Die Dauer der ganzen Lektionen beträgt 50 Minuten, diejenige der Dreiviertel- und halben Lektionen 40 bzw. 25 Minuten.

Schulgeld / Tarif

Das Schulgeld wird vom Schulverein gemäss Tarif festgelegt.

Bei finanziellen Notlagen und nach erfolglosem Versuch der Ausschöpfung von externen Quellen (s. Schulgeld) kann auf Antrag an das Sekretariat ein Gesuch um Unterstützung gestellt werden (s. Hinweise auf der Rechnungsstellung).

Bezahlung

Die Rechnungen werden jeweils zu Semesterbeginn gestellt und sind in zwei Raten zu Beginn jedes Quartals zu bezahlen.

The School Year

The school year of the Freie Musikschule Basel consists of two semesters each of about 19 weeks: August – January; February – July, look here.

Timetables for tuition are drawn up in the first week of school after the summer holidays. As a rule, no lessons are given during this week. Exceptions may be made by agreement with individual teachers.

Admission / Departure

Tuition starts at the beginning of a quarter. The fees for each semester (resp. a quarter) must be paid in full even if the pupil leaves before the end of the semester (see condition for giving up notice below – Abmeldung).

Registration / Deregistration

Please contact the teacher. Applications must be received at the latest one week before the end of the quarter prior to the quarter in which tuition begins. Applications will be dealt with in order of receipt. If necessary waiting lists will be drawn up. Ask the teacher if you want to start outside the quarters of the school year.

Applications for a break in tuition (Urlaubsgesuch) or notice to cease tuition (Abmeldung) must be made in writing to the relevant teacher two months before the end of the semester (31st May or 15th November) using the relevant form. The form can be downloaded from this website or they are available from the school office. In cases where the required notice is not given and the teacher cannot subsequently find another pupil to take the place, the fees for the following semester must be paid.

Holidays

Holidays are the same as those of the schools of the Canton Basel-Stadt. There is no tuition on public holidays.

Cancellations

Lessons that are cancelled by the pupil due to sickness, school trips, school camps or for any other reason will not be made up.

In the case of lesson/s canceled by a teacher, the first lesson will not be made up. From the second canceled lesson onwards (per semester) the lesson/s will either be made up by the relevant teacher, given by a replacement teacher or the school fees will be refunded at a rate of 1/19th of the semester fee per canceled lesson.

Duration of Lessons

Full lessons last for 50 minutes; three-quarter lessons last for 40 minutes and half lessons last for 25 minutes.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are set by the School Association (Verein Freie Musikschule Basel). In cases of financial hardship, it may be possible to agree on an adjustment of the fees in discussion with a member of the association’s governing body.

Payment

Fees invoices are sent out at the beginning of each semester and are payable in two quarterly installments.
